The written word has called to me since I was very small.
My first-ever story was three pages long. It was about a girl who wanted a pet, asked her parents for a pet, and then got a pet.
No real rising action or conflict resolution there, but it was a start. (In case you were wondering, yes, I wrote the story as a not-so-subtle hint for my own parents, and yes, I did casually place it on their bedside table one night.)
I kept at the writing and earned a B.A. in Literature from Washington University in St. Louis, where I got really good at name-dropping literary critics and procuring primary sources from deep in the B stacks.
In-house content writer
I sought gainful employment as a writer for an education company with the radically awesome mission of helping children learn through play. I got to write about the intersection of education, culture, and wellbeing - a sweet spot for me that I loved.
As I composed email campaigns that reached millions of users, along with blog posts, press releases, and trade show materials, I learned how to transition from literary to persuasive writing, mastering key marketing principles along the way.
Traveling the World
Travel inspires me creatively like nothing else can. I am proud to report that I have traveled to 23 countries spanning 6 continents, and spent over 2 years living abroad. I successfully completed a 3-month solo backpacking trip through Southeast Asia, and walked the Camino de Santiago, a 500+ mile journey across Spain.
I am now a fully freelance writer, and loving it.
